Devlog: August 2025 – Act 1 Rewrite Done, Shifting Focus to Act 2

So, here’s where things stand with Drift right now:

The rewritten Act 1 is fully done. That includes all scripting, revised scenes, and new (still placeholder) character art for the new characters. Just over half the scenes were either reworked or edited to reflect the story’s updated direction. It’s a lot cleaner and more consistent now, and I’m way happier with how it reads overall.

At the same time, I’ve been making solid progress on Act 2, and the script is about 90% finished. There’s still one section I want to tighten up, but compared to how rough the first draft of Act 1 was, I’m feeling a lot more confident going into this chapter.

Because of that, I’ve officially decided to cancel the Act 1.5 update and shift focus directly to releasing an Act 2 demo instead. I realized that just re-releasing the current demo with some polish isn’t all that exciting, especially since both the prototype and demo already cover the same section of the story. I’d rather keep the momentum going and focus on delivering actual new content.

As for visuals, I’m still using placeholder art for now. I’d love to eventually replace it with fully illustrated character art, but unfortunately, I haven’t had any luck locking down an artist yet. If that changes, I’ll make it a priority before the final release.

The upcoming Act 2 demo will include sound, but the music will mostly be placeholders for now. That said, I’m in very early talks with a composer who might be interested in creating an original soundtrack for the game. Nothing confirmed yet, but I’m hopeful.

More updates soon once I start stitching everything together.
